I didn't start out to write a "clean" book; it's just that this story did not lend itself to drugs, sex, violence, bad language (or vampires.)
Ironically, I intended to write a YA book, but couldn't interest anyone in it because it's "clean." Even though the protagonist is 16, agents and children's book authors repeatedly said this should be marketed as an adult historical novel.
Now that many parents are looking for good, clean YA books, I'm pleased to recommend this Japanese historical novel to homeschoolers, librarians, and all who may be interested in a good, clean read.
